With his quartet, Lamoureux strives to create music that acts as a vehicle of honesty from everyone, band members and listeners included. From invigorating up-tempos to entrancing elegies, his compositions explore a wide array of human emotions which are portrayed by the sum of its parts. They constantly push the ceiling of what has been heard from an acoustic quartet but also deeply explore ideas and music from various facets of sound in world history to pay tribute to the present moment.
Adam was born in 2002 in Calgary Alberta, Canada and soon moved to London Ontario where he was raised and discovered his passion for music. After being immersed in musical lessons and activities since before he could remember, Lamoureux had a strong connection to music and decided to pick up the saxophone at the age of ten. Soon after starting, he realized his love for the instrument after hearing the sounds of Charlie Parker and John Coltrane and developed a deep passion for improvised music.
Upon entering high school, Adam had his mind set on devoting his efforts to honing his skills on the saxophone. Besides being involved in various groups in his high school, he played professionally across his hometown and began making a name for himself in the local scene. During this time, Adam was very fortunate to study with the likes of Mike Murley, Jon Irabagon, Seamus Blake. In 2019, he was chosen to be a member of the nationwide Conn-Selmer Centerstage Jazz Band and received the Rico Golden Reed Award. That same year, Lamoureux spent three weeks in New York City at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Summer Jazz Workshop, and the NYU Summer Jazz Improv Workshop. It was here that he fell in love with New York and knew it was where he was destined to base his career.
In 2020, Adam moved to New York City to attend the Manhattan School of Music where he was fortunate to study under the likes of Dayna Stephens, Jaleel Shaw, Donny McCaslin, and Buster Williams. Lamoureux has integrated himself into New York’s vivid scene through performances at Carnegie Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Cafe Bohemia, The Django, Ornithology Jazz Club, Birdland Jazz Club, and Nublu to name a few. He has shared the stage with both luminaries of his generation and esteemed musicians such as Marc Cary, Ingrid Jensen, E.J Strickland, and John Benitez. Adam has also performed on and been recognized by various radio stations including WGBO and WKCR. In July of 2022, Lamoureux attended the prestigious Jazz Aspen Snowmass Academy in Aspen, Colorado as a member of the band “Intermittence.” In the fall of that same year, Adam formed his quartet with Esteban Castro on piano, Rafael Enciso on bass, and Miguel Russell on drums and debuted his original compositions across NYC with the intention of reflecting the times we live in today and creating an uplifting and introspective experience for his audiences.
Most recently, Lamoureux attended the 2024 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program directed by Jason Moran and made his European debut with performances in London and Amsterdam. Aside from performing, Adam is an avid composer for film and has had scores featured in festivals such as The New York Short Film Festival.
